Over the next few months, we plan on highlighting several members of the McKinley Carter team. Although we have most everyone covered on the “Our Team” section of our website, we wanted to allow you to get to know us a little better here.
As our firm has rapidly grown over the past five years, we have added both new locations, and new faces. Hopefully this will help bridge the gap so to speak.
My name is Russell Dunkin, and I am the first guinea pig on our blog bio page. Professionally, I am an advisor in the Wheeling office and frequent blogger on this site.
Although I do enjoy working with clients and at McKinley Carter in general (I know, I know, what else would I write) I have many other outside interests and hobbies. Here are a few:
Family – As of last Thursday, I have been married for ten years to Christy Dunkin. She is a 6th grade math teacher at Triadelphia Middle School. We have a two year old daughter Aubrey, and live in Wheeling.

Technology – Most of you who know me realize I have a small obsession with gadgets, and in particular, Apple gadgets. Over the past few years, I’ve owned all four iPhones, iMacs, a laptop, and of course, the iPad. So if you have the phone, but don’t really know how to use it, feel free to bring it to your next meeting and I’ll give you some tips.
Pittsburgh Sports - My only (I think) unhealthy obsession is with the Penguins and Steelers. I feel like I’m generally a pretty mild mannered guy, but not so much during the season. My wife gets annoyed when I can remember specific details about a game from ten years ago that we were at, or watched on tv. Don’t worry ladies, I don’t forget birthdays or anniversaries.
Proof of said obsession
Cycling - Since high school graduation, I’ve competed in both road and mountain bike races. Between work and family, the racing days are mostly over, although I do still enjoy riding locally. To make up for the lack of time, I’ve also started running, and have competed in a few 5k’s and hope to complete a 10k this fall.

Charity
- Free Wheelchair Mission - Although work, family, and my other obsessions do require most of my time, I do enjoy volunteering locally with Free Wheelchair Mission-Ohio Valley. FWM is a mission in Southern California, dedicated to providing low cost wheelchairs to those who lack mobility in third world countries. I have participated in several local fundraisers, as well as donate time by writing for their site to get the word out.
Mario Lemieux Foundation - This past spring I participated in the Pittsburgh Penguins “beard-a-thon” fundraiser during the 2010 NHL playoffs. The idea was simple. Players superstitiously stop shaving during the playoffs, and don’t shave until they are eliminated or win it all. Fans can participate and raise money for a great cause. I was fortunate to have friends and family help me raise nearly $1,200 which was good enough for tenth among all Pens fans.
In a nutshell, that’s me. Hopefully now you see me as more than a number cruncher, or bean counter, or whatever it is advisors are called these days!
